Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers are responsible for system wide wireless LAN functions, such as security policies, intrusion prevention, RF management, quality of service (QoS), and mobility. They work in conjunction with Cisco Access Points and the Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) to support business-critical wireless applications. From voice and data services to location tracking, Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers provide the control, scalability, security, and reliability that network managers need to build secure, enterprise-scale wireless networks-from branch offices to main campuses.

Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers smoothly integrate into existing enterprise networks. They communicate with Controller-based Access Points over any Layer 2 (Ethernet) or Layer 3 (IP) infrastructure using the Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP). These devices support automation of numerous WLAN configuration and management functions across all enterprise locations.

Because the Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers support 802.11a/b/g and the IEEE 802.11n draft 2.0 standard, organizations can deploy the solution that best meets their individual requirements. Organizations can offer robust coverage with 802.11 a/b/g or deliver greater performance with 5x the throughput and unprecedented reliability using 802.11n and Cisco's Next-Generation Wireless Solutions and Cisco Enterprise Wireless Mesh.

The Cisco 4400 Series Wireless LAN Controllers are designed for medium-to-large enterprise facilities. The Cisco 4400 Series is available in two models-the 4402 with two Gigabit Ethernet ports comes in configurations that support 12, 25, and 50 access points, and the 4404 with four Gigabit Ethernet ports supports 100 access points.

The Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers work in conjunction with Cisco Aironet access points and the Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) to provide systemwide wireless LAN functions. As a component of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network, the Cisco 2100 Series Wireless LAN Controllers enables administrators to securely manage WLANs and mobility services, such as enhanced security, voice, guest access, and location services.

The Cisco 2100 Series Wireless LAN Controllers supports six, twelve or twenty-five access points, making it a cost-effective solution for enterprise branches and small and medium-sized businesses. The Cisco 2100 Series Wireless LAN Controllers come with eight Ethernet ports, two of which can provide power directly to Cisco lightweight access points.

With performance up to 100 Mbps, the Cisco 2100 Series Wireless LAN Controllers enable small and medium-sized branch offices to deploy collaboration applications such as guest access and mobile voice. Organizations can offer robust coverage with 802.11 a/b/g or deliver greater performance with 5x the throughput and unprecedented reliability using 802.11n and Cisco's Next-Generation Wireless Solutions.
